Registering Your Business Name In Less Than 24 Hours

Have you ever tried to register your business name in Nigeria? Most small business owners describe the process as stressful with a lot of back and forth. If lawyers are not trying to overcharge you then it’s the big issue of completing your application without errors. Start by Kippa allows small business owners to register their business names at a fixed cost of 15,000 NGN and a very quick speed so we talked to Qawiyah of PlansByQ who used the product and got her certificate in 24 hours.

Hey Qawiyah, please tell us about your business?

My name is Qawiyah and I own an event planning and gift curation company called PlansByQ. I have been in this business since late 2018 but more officially in  2019 and what I do is plan events, and curate experiences using gifts for clients all over the world.

What do you love about your business?

I like to say that gifting is very similar to communication and that’s the same way I feel about events. For every gift pack I curate, I try to communicate whatever feeling of affection my client is trying to give and that’s the best part of my business. The next best thing is creating an experience based on who would be receiving the gift. I don’t do gift packages with prices, every pack I send out is specially curated for the receiver based on what they like and how they like it. So, that process of understanding someone and creating an experience for them is very fulfilling.

That’s great, and what stresses you out?

Sometimes, clients reach out to me to create packages for their partners or friends or family and they can’t even describe these people. They can’t answer basic questions about people they love and I don’t think it’s because they don’t know it but maybe because they just aren’t interested in doing that work. However, that’s when I can do the best work when my clients can help me understand the receiver even more. When they don’t I have to use social media and pictures to figure out what a receiver would like.

When was the first time you thought of registering your business and how did that go?

In 2019 when I started out, I wanted to build a legit and well-structured business. I even reached out to a lawyer at some point and I think he billed me about 50,000 NGN. It seemed expensive and to be honest, the process seemed long so I just left it and started my business without it.

So why did you decide to try out Start By Kippa?

My business is a lot bigger than it was in 2019 and now I have clients within and outside the country. I just wanted to make my business seem more formal and even though I have not personally experienced this, some people are sceptical about making payments to personal bank accounts. So when I saw that Start By Kippa was cheap, the process seemed easy and they looked credible, I decided to try it out.

And how was the experience with Start By Kippa?

It was great! I saw the post on my someone’s Instagram page and then I went on to Kippa’s page to find the link. I clicked on it and the whole thing looked so easy so I just continued. After I made the payment, I realized the ID I submitted had a different signature from the signature I uploaded. I got an email from Start By Kippa saying I would hear from them soon so I planned to send an email with the concern I had about my signature. Surprisingly, someone from the team called me and was super helpful. She walked me through my application and it turned out I had made more errors so she helped me to sort everything out.

I applied on Monday Night, spoke to her on Tuesday morning around 10 am and by 3 pm on Tuesday I had my certificate from CAC. It was amazing and to think it only cost me 15,000 NGN.

What are you going to do now that your business is registered?

I really need a business bank account because my business finances are in shambles right now. The person I spoke to me told me that Start By KIppa would also give me access to a business account soon after my business is registered and I am really looking forward to that. I also think I would be using Kippa App a lot more now. I would definitely try out the invoices because that’s something I really need.
