Side hustles are any jobs you take on to earn more money in addition to your primary source of income; literally, everyone I know has a side hustle, even I have one. Essentially everyone wants to make some extra bucks. Therefore, you must make extra money because this Nigerian economy is expensive.
So we got curious about our Kippa users and decided to hunt down any of them with a side hustle. It felt like we deserved some insight on how people balance a 9-5 with a side hustle with no hiccups.
We had a chat with Yomi Faloyo on balancing his 9-5 with a side hustle.
Who are you, can we meet you?
My name is Yomi Faloyo, and I run a mobile phone charging business and a utility and data subscription payment business alongside my office job in Ogun State.
What does your typical workday look like?
My typical workday is very easy to manage; it revolves around waking up early to get to the office, and then once work closes, I am back to managing my other business. So from work to work.
How has business been so far, I mean shuffling it with work?
To the glory of God, it's been easy so far. It hasn't been difficult to do alongside work; it's a mobile business, so I don't have a shop to monitor, so I don't even need employees. I can work comfortably from anywhere and time; and still, run the utility and data subscription payment part of my business comfortably.
How did you find Kippa?
So when I first started the side hustle, I rendered my service to customers on credit a lot, and I had to go through the stress of remembering every debtor's name and penning that information in a book.
It was randomly suggested to me one day on the App Store. I had never used an accounting app before, so I didn't know what to expect. Nevertheless, I decided to take a chance with the app, hoping it would somehow benefit me. Since I started using it has helped me immensely in noting my debtors, and it makes it easier to get my money back.
Before Kippa, how did you handle debt?
I didn't just render service to strangers on credit. It had to be people I knew I had access to. But on this money matter ehn, people can be so funny even though you feel like you can trust them and are accessible to you, they will still disappoint you.
Since Kippa, how has getting paid in your side hustle been like?
With Kippa App, it's so easy to get paid; there's no need to carry any exercise book around flipping pages trying to find the contacts and names of customers owing me. Now I can look through my phone and quickly get all the details I need.
How long have you been running this side business?
It's been over a year now.
Give us your honest reply on how the business has been in the past year?
I know that there would be bumps along the road in any business. It can't always be smooth and easy; it's real-life, not a movie. It would help to find a balance between every problem and every solution.
What motivated you to start a side hustle?
For me, it was a thing of extra cash on my monthly income that would be lovely. But, unfortunately, most of my colleagues don't even have other side businesses.
Final question, what advice would you give to someone else who is considering starting their side hustle?
The best advice I can give is money management; make sure you always yield more than your capital. Get an app that can automate all your transactions and finances. Good finance is the backbone of every business.
You have to be specific on your business plans and goals to achieve what you want to achieve. Be mobile with your finances. It takes the burden off your shoulders.
